How to Cook Har Gow

Prepare a pan at least 2 inches larger than the bottom of your steamer. Add 2 inches of water and bring to a boil.

Arrange an oiled plate inside a steamer. Place a few har gow on the oiled plate, cover, and place the bamboo steamer on top of the boiling water in the prepared pan.

Steam the dumplings in batches, until the wrapper is soft and translucent, around 13 to 15 minutes per batch.

For easier cooking, use your electric steamer. Just to be sure brush a thin layer of oil on the steamer basket if you are using a metal steamer.

Serve the har gow with our Pure Chili Sauce or Chili Garlic Sauce and soy sauce for dipping.

This makes a great snack for the whole family especially for kids who love fresh shrimps.

How to Store and Freeze Har Gow

Leftover cooked har gow can be stored in the fridge using an airtight container for a maximum 3 days. Make sure the dumplings aren't packed tightly, as the skins could stick together and break.

Storing har gow overnight prior to cooking: keep them covered in the refrigerator to cook the next day.

Reheating, the best method is to use steam again, but because they're already cooked inside they don't need as much time. Check for temperature after 5 minutes, but don't overheat, as the filling can dry out and the dumpling can get gummy.

For unopened packs, store in freezer and use within three months.  For opened packaging, transfer to freezer bags or containers and may use within three months. There's no need to thaw frozen har gow; simply put in your dumpling steamer and it's good to go.
